Netherlee - Artist’s Retreat
A complete renovation and extension of a 1950s bungalow in Netherlee, South Glasgow, creating a distinctive contemporary home tailored to the character and interests of its owners. With backgrounds in textile design and music, the clients sought a home that reflected their creativity, individuality and appreciation for thoughtful design.
The project demonstrates how a carefully considered bungalow extension can transform an existing home, introducing new living spaces while retaining the character and scale of the original building. Bold material choices, including a striking black kitchen, exposed steelwork and carefully crafted details, create a home with a strong sense of identity.
Externally, charred timber cladding and terrazzo paving introduce a contemporary palette that contrasts with and enhances the original 1950s bungalow, creating a modern intervention that remains sensitive to its suburban setting.
